Biggest Playground Design and Maintenance Mistakes

When you want to design the perfect playground there are lots of things that you need to think about. Once you have put a lot of careful thought and planning into the design stage, you can build the playground so that children will be able to play happily on all the different rides and equipment.

If you are unsure about the best way to build a playground, there are several key steps to follow.

Not Choosing A Flat Area

Some people do not research the setting for their playground well enough. Some people will attempt to build a playground which is on the sloping or uneven ground. This can cause children to fall over and hurt themselves. It also means that rides can be less effective since they are not on even ground.

Choose a company which has been transforming school playgrounds for over 25 years.

Not Repairing The Tarmac When It Cracks

The tarmac can become cracked and worn because of a number of children who are running backwards and forwards. The smallest of cracks can soon develop into larger ones, so they need to be fixed as soon as is practically possible.

You might also notice that the tarmac starts to become potholed. These dents need to be filled in as quickly as possible. Fresh asphalt can be laid down and then smoothed out.

Not Putting Railings Up On Stairs

When people are climbing stairs in order to reach the top of a slide, they need something to hold onto which will keep them steady. If you don’t have railings then children could fall down and hurt themselves on the stairs.

Not Maintaining The Swings

The swings need to be kept in top condition at all times, otherwise, children could have accidents or they might begin to lose interest in the equipment. Common problems with swings include the seats becoming broken and the chains rusting. These problems are easy to fix but you need to make sure that the problems are dealt with as soon as possible.

Not Maintaining The Roundabout

The roundabout can start to fall into disrepair if it is not looked after correctly. Common problems with roundabouts include broken seats, buckled railings and a lack of safety. You need to make sure that nothing is broken on the roundabout and that children have enough room to play without becoming stuck or claustrophobic.

Not Keeping Climbing Frames In Good Order

The climbing frame is one of the most popular pieces of equipment in any playground. The frame can start to rust if it exposed to a lot of rain and if the water is not wiped off properly. The bars of the climbing frame can start to become loose, which is dangerous for any children who have started to climb.

You should inspect every part of your playground to make sure that there are none of these common playground problems. If you spot any mistakes, then make a note and get the problem fixed as soon as possible.
